Item description

Stated First Edition, meaning first printing for Doubleday books. Tight, square, sharp, flat and crisp book in lightly wrinkled DJ. Spots of foxing on the leading edge. This might be the most passive-aggressive biography ever written. (It has apparently been completely forgotten by McCartney scholars, though Flippo was a famous Rolling Stone writer of the 1970s.) ?Unauthorized? means that it?s full of gossip. And what is the gossip on Sir Paul (who was not yet knighted when this book was written, in 1988)? That he?s a pothead, a cheapskate, a workaholic ? with a one-eyed, obsessive relationship to his wife Linda. Why did he bring her everywhere with him? Was he scared he would cheat on her, if he toured alone? Linda seems somewhat bewildered by his desire for her to play the organ in Wings, but what did she care? She was a big pothead, too. Interestingly, McCartney?s best album, Ram (possibly a titular reference to the Hindu god) is listed as a collaboration between the two of them ? and I believe Linda helped write some of the goofball lyrics, like: Opening the book at random: ?After the initial shock, after the heartbreak of seeing the love of one?s life flashing her tits in a window at eleven o?clock in the morning for the benefit of any potential buyers passing by, after dodging a leather whip administered by a leather-clad lady who last night had been at the Indra cheering the Beatles, the boys learned another lesson of life. Maybe.? [That reminds me: this book is probably the best account of the Beatles in Hamburg?]
