Flex covers, cloth binding. -- Replica/reprint published by Library Archive Services Co. (undated) Circa 2006. A delightful look at an early pictorial children's reader, about learning to read, building proficiency, and enjoying good old fashion slapstick humor, featuring only people of color, Afro-centric. Paper / Soft cover reprint edition in very good condition, flex covers, cloth bound, a sturdy book. Overall good copy, and wonderful book. It would make a great gift for the fan in your life, even if that's you. Clean and Unmarked Text. Very Good condition. Text is in English. Reproduced in black/white and color, same as original issue. ** The illustrations sometimes appeared in a syndicated column for children, similar to the Sunday funnies. They feature period dialect, slapstick satire, rhetoric and clothing of the era. -- Defects: None found. **Some of the text is small, so it's a little hard to read. Modern, undated replica. -- NEW facsimile edition Kemble's lively cartoons, some of the magazine industry's most mature work, attracted the attention of Mark Twain, who employed Kemble to illustrate Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Kemble subsequently illustrated several other famous books, including Twain's Puddin' Head Wilson, Harriet Beecher Stowe's Uncle Tom's Cabin, Washington Irving's Knickerbocker History of New York, and many of Joel Chandler Harris' Uncle Remus stories. Kemble lived in the Rochelle Park area of suburban New Rochelle. Kemble died in Ridgefield, Connecticut in 1933, aged 72.
