Listing Handmade and Made-to-Order Items

Do you have handmade or made-to-order items and struggle with all the settings to list them? We have created this blog as a guide to improve your Bonanza listings and the Etsy listings you've already imported to Bonanza.

What items are considered handmade or made-to-order?

These are items that you or a worker affiliated with your business has made. That could mean making French Macarons or sewing a costume using a buyer's measurements.

Images

Use your own images when listing a product. If the actual item ordered has not been made yet, note clearly in the description that the images shown are purely for example. Never use any third party's images, as they may infringe upon intellectual property rights.

Details

• Where possible, list your item in a "Custom," "Handmade," or "Handcrafted" subcategory, for example "Jewelry & Watches >> Handcrafted, Artisan Jewelry"
  • If a "Custom," "Handmade," or "Handcrafted" subcategory does not exist for your type of item, the Brand can be listed as "Custom," "Handmade," or "Handcrafted"

• Check your listing's description to be sure it accurately states the lead-time for made-to-order items; that is, the amount of time it takes to complete production before the item is shipped to the buyer. You can also use the "Ships Within" field to reflect production time.

• Please be sure your items do not violate any listing policies or terms of use

How Made-to-Order is different from Pre-orders

A "pre-order" or "pre-sale" is an order for an item that has not yet been made commercially available. For instance, a Nintendo game that will be released next month is considered a "pre-order" item and cannot be listed until the game is actually available. Pre-order listings are prohibited on Bonanza.

Tell your story

When you buy a handmade item, you are getting an item from the heart of the Artisan. The creation took thought, love, and passion to come to life. It gives you a glimpse into the creator’s mind. Yes, Handmade may cost a little more…but there is a story behind the creation. A story you take part in just by owning the item. A story you can share with generations to come. There is a real person and real thought behind each handmade item.

Bonanza lets you tell your story in several different ways. On your profile page you will find a field called "About Me". Go to your Account drop-down menu on the upper-left hand side of any page. Click “Profile”, then click "Edit" in the About Me box.

You can also add all or part of your story in the listing's description field. Check out some of our artisans from their About Me page clipped below:
