1 Ukrainian Karbovanet, also known as Kupon or Kynoh, has been a distint unit of currency in Ukraine during 3 separate periods of the 20th century. It is the predecessor currency of today's Ukrainian Hryvnia. In November 1990, with the collapse of the Soviet planned economy, the Ukrainian SSR introduced these one-time coupons given to Ukrainian residents. These coupons were needed in addition to rubles in order to buy groceries and living essentials. On January 10, 1992, the karbovanets replaced rubles at par and later suffered from hyperinflation and was replaced by the Hryvnia in 1996. Brown.
