Item description
BING GRONDAHL (B G) 2001 Places of Enchantment
FUJI-SAN, JAPAN
is the subject of the BING GRONDAHL (B G) 2001 Places of Enchantment Plate, the fifth in a series of six plates that ran from 1997 through 2002 featuring some of the world’s most popular tourist attractions. Fuji-san (Mount Fuji), perhaps Japan’s most recognizable landmark, is an almost perfect volcanic cone, the tallest peak in Japan at 3,776 meters (12,389 feet). A pilgrimage site for centuries, it is considered one of Japan’s 3 sacred mountains, and summit hikes remain a popular activity. Fuji-san last erupted in 1707 and is still considered an active volcano.
The scene is embossed on Danish porcelain and hand painted in traditional Copenhagen blue under the glaze. Designed by Sven Vestergaard. Diameter approximately 7 OE inches (18 cm). Pierced foot for hanging wire. Appropriately marked on the back, including the three tower trademark of Bing Grondahl.
EXCELLENT CONDITION (no chips, cracks, or repairs), and FIRST QUALITY (no scratch through the trademark). This is old dealer stock, never displayed or sold at retail, with original box, Certificate of Authenticity, and descriptive brochure. The PLATE is MINT, but the BOX shows minor shelf wear, now 20 years old.
