Fuji-san (Mount Fuji), perhaps Japan’s most recognizable landmark, is an almost perfect volcanic cone, the tallest peak in Japan at 3,776 meters (12,389 feet). A pilgrimage site for centuries, it is considered one of Japan’s 3 sacred mountains, and summit hikes remain a popular activity. Fuji-san last erupted in 1707 and is still considered an active volcano. The scene is embossed on Danish porcelain and hand painted in traditional Copenhagen blue under the glaze.
