Booth overview
As beautiful as a quilt with flowing feathers is, there has always been something about straight lines that has intrigued me and drawn me in. When I took studio drawing in art school, it was the straight line, perspective drawing that was deemed my best work, so it was only natural to incorporate it into my quilting process. It started with one picture I took in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City of the buildings arches. I knew I could interpret it into a quilt, using mainly the quilt stitches to give it depth and perspective. By using a limited number of carefully chosen fabrics it allowed the thread work to shine through and tell the story. When “Museum Arches” was done, I went back to the pictures I took that day and pulled out more I felt would convert well into fabric and thread. They needed to be simple enough to be translated through a minimal color palette, yet complex enough that there would be enough detail to use in the quilting to pull the whole piece together.
I found that by hand dying my own fabrics, then accenting them with commercially available pieces, I can get the effect I am looking for. My fabric selection is not limited to cotton. It includes any natural fiber I can dye including linen, bamboo/rayon blends, silk, and silk/hemp blends.
When my Niece became Wiccan, I wanted to be as supportive of Her as she has always been of everyone else.
My search for handmade Wiccan items always led me back to my own studio.
As I created these pieces, I thought ~ Others may be on the same quest ~ and that was how another facet of this shop was born.
