Hello, Bonanzlers! We hope your 2023 is off to a great start. We have some exciting news to share with you, our community.
Effective March 9, 2023 Alloy and Bonanza Chief Executive Officer Bill Harding has sold Bonanza.com to Quincy Faison under the newly established company, Bonanza Worldwide, LLC. Quincy will have complete responsibility for the Bonanza business including product and seller strategy, development priorities, and support. As you know, in recent years Bill has gradually stepped back from day-to-day operations at Bonanza, as he works to build the tools that can help medium-sized operations like Bonanza maximize their productive output. Bill will transition his full attention to his company's exciting new projects,
Amplenote (tasks and note taking) and
GitClear (developer metrics, git analytics).
This transition in Bonanza Leadership is happening at a great time for Bonanza and its sellers. But you likely wonder what that means for you, a Bonanza seller and community member. According to Quincy, "Our plans for Bonanza is to continue to develop world class features for our sellers, but we are going to shift our company to be more marketing focused. We are going to drive more traffic. We are going to embrace social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok. We are going to help our sellers produce more videos to get more eye balls.
We are going to give our sellers more tools to help them run their business on and off platform. We are creating a DSP to allow our sellers to invest in pen point marketing activities to reach their potential buyers at an affordable rate. And finally, we are creating a lending marketplace that allows our sellers to borrow working capital to invest in revenue generating activities that structure the payback strictly based on revenue generated that month. Sellers love Bonanza and we are going to continue to be the company that Bill started 14 years ago with his vision and mission."
Prior to purchasing Bonanza, Quincy began his career with IBM 20+ years ago and focused on Small and Midsized businesses. He launched his first business at the age of 25 reselling SAP Business One to Companies with less than $10M in sales. Eventually, he built his own Cloud Based ERP focused on helping e-commerce companies manage their business end-to-end, supporting everything from financials to purchasing to inventory optimization to warehouse management to manufacturing to selling online via their own websites and a multitude of online marketplaces.
For Quincy, Bonanza had that same DNA. Bonanza is focused on helping smaller to midsized merchants. Bonanza is customer centric and isn't afraid to go up against the big boys. The staff genuinely loves their sellers and the consumers that purchase from them.

If this means you are now going to be competitive with eBay, I applaud this. eBay has had a monopoly on the internet sales for so long that their mentality is my way or the highway. They have taken so much from the sellers and rewarded buyers (Not All Buyers) for their shenanigans, those who are sellers on eBay know what I mean. The seller deserves more respect than what they get now.

I just hope the fees don’t go up much (or at all for just listing items) and am eager to see more traffic driven to Bonanza. This encourages me to put more time into cleaning up my shop. ;)

Uh yeah, forgive me for being cautious, but I don’t want someone that isn’t experienced in this sort of business, changing the way we sell on this platform,ie Ebay, forcing certain “policies” on the sellers.

Great news! Tell Quincy I would love to see a live show on here weekly for 20 mins. Where if you pay a fee, one of your items/store could be advertised by Shelly like a QVC broadcast. It could have up to 10 different businesses showcased on every show. I would like to see fun new ways of taking Bonanza forward, not doing what every other company is doing now.

Sounds like a great opportunity for Bonanza. It will be a great advantage if Bonanza can obtain more visibility and recognition. Many sellers would really be interested in transitioning additional business to a platform that has strong marketing and is fair to both sellers and buyers.

I am more of the “wait and see” type but there are things that need to be fixed before going worldwide. I enjoy using Bonanza even with its issues (ex shipping). Better adding someone new with fresh ideas than having another platform buy Bonanza & wreck it. I wish more platforms would operate as this one does.

What about more international correspondence? Bonanza is very US-centric and inconsiderate to sellers and buyers outside of the US. Is anything being done to change this so that there is a more international to-and-fro flow of traffic such as with eBay and Etsy? Regards, Anthony
Hi Anthony! Thanks so much for the great questions. We will be actively working to make international buying and selling better and would be happy to hear any feedback on that front.
Hopefully shipping International will be an option and not a requirement. I for one do not want to deal with the inherent problems of customs delays, bad feedback, chargebacks, lost products, etc.
Paypal and all other electronic payments have 180 returns associated with them as well. Not in the business or letting someone borrow something for 6 months interest free. I went through all of that with ebay, not doing it again.

I like the idea of more advertising
I did lots of social media in the past, gave it a real try, but I do not do it anymore. I do not have time but still I wouldn’t start up again regardless. Other than there are sellers here on Bonanza that will advertise for us for a fee. It’s not a big difference in sales but does give our items better ranking on google I feel indirectly.

This sounds great. I do very well on Etsy and I have not received one sale yet from Bonanza so I am hoping this new change will help all of us. The main reason I am sticking with Bonanza is their excellent customer service and the effort they put in to help us sellers.

I have been with Bonanza since 2008 when it was just beginning. It is the only place I sell on and I enjoy how easy it is to list items and maintain a booth without huge fees. I don’t sell a lot, and it has always been more of a creative hobby for me than a business. I will be interested to see what changes are coming and I hope they are positive. Welcome aboard Quincy! Currently Bonanza is an almost unknown ecommerce platform in the public eye. Ebay has it’s issues but is the current king of the hill. I collect more in sales tax on ebay than I do in sales on Bonanza. Ebay has features we need here on Bonanza. Like discounts at checkout for multiple purchases. Upgrade the shipping and drop the convenience fee! The ability to talk to a person! I look forward to experience positive upgrades on Bonanza. Good Luck! Have an Enjoyable Day!!!

First of all… I love Bonanza [signed up when it was brand new – Bonanzle]
I’m hopefully yet cautiously waiting to see what the changes will be before investing more time. I have 6 booths with just under 9,000 listings and thousands more waiting in the wings ready to list.
I’m hopeful when I hear you say “Shipping does have room for improvement especially for international sellers.” I would be THRILLED if you would integrate the Canada Post Calculated Shipping app – years ago I talked to Canada Post and they said it was easy for a site to do but I guess there weren’t enough of us for Bill to bother with :)
But I’m cautious about the fees aspect. I can handle fees going up no problem… I can adjust my prices accordingly BUT if it turns out that there would be a listing fee then that would be a deal breaker for me. The thing I love most about Bonanza is that I can list as much as I want and it doesn’t cost a dime until the item sells. Also the work involved in constant relisting.

Bonanza suffers from poor market exposure. Mercari has a terrible platform but has great success due to TV ads. If more people knew about Bonanza it could be the best platform for small sellers

Bonanza certainly needs more presence in the marketing area. Everybody knows of Etsy or EBay but hardly anyone I’ve spoken to has heard of Bonanza. I don’t have the time to spare to be a one woman marketing department for the platform and neither do my fellow vendors. Help us out here and at least do some basic marketing in the form of commercials/advertising. It would benefit everyone, sellers and company alike.

One thing I would like to see is more integrations and updating the ones that are in the partners list. Some of them are not even active anymore. A good print on demand would be great like SPOD or Printful.
Additionally, sprucing up the webstores with better designs or customization, or just offering, even for a fee, an official shopify syncing service would be great as well.

Just as enthusiasm for Shopify quickly wanes with most Sellers, Bonanza is only marginally valuable or the same shortcoming: SEO. Without eyeballs on listings, none of this matters. Hopefully that is the focus of the new Bonanza. There is a lot to like about Bonanza and it has not scratched the surface on what it can be. The site looks and operates great. More exposure of listings and the company itself (advertising and social media presence) are sorely needed for a real jump to occur.

I forgot all about something I had wished for several years back. I wish that out of all the membership subscriptions, that a feature here or a feature there could be purchased separately without having to pay for an entire membership where not all the features do I need….thereby causing the membership to not be worth purchasing.
Also, please bring back the background burner. I used it all the time. I got used to working with it.

My main sales on Bonanza are natural uranium rocks, which I have found mostly at Jurassic Canyon NM, located near Grants NM. I obey all federal laws about uranium. The federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission, rules # 40.13 and 40.22; together with USPS Packaging Instructions 7A and Pub. 52, Section 347.22, expressly FORBID shipping any uranium rocks to ANY FOREIGN COUNTRY, even to the friendly nearby country of Canada. I MUST obey these regulations!

This is just a “side comment” on printing the postage label for mailing the Bonanza item to the buyers.
(1) The mailing label is positioned TOO FAR TO THE LEFT on the printed page, and the surrounding printed box is MISSING the LINE FOR THE LEFT EDGE. Could the postal printing software be adjusted so that the mailing label is centered on the printed page, so that the left-edge line is actually printed? This is a minor change in printing that label; it would add a professional look to the label, that is presently absent.
(2) Could the label do what Ebay labels already offer: an option for the seller to choose to state the POSTAGE AMOUNT SPENT at the label’s heading? I would choose this option if it were an option for sellers. Ebay does it already.
(3) I use my UNM-Gallup university address as the return address when shipping packages to buyers. The mailing software label declares the sender to be, “BONANZA SELLER.” But about 300 people at the university address have mail boxes on campus, so I would prefer my own name, STEPHEN BUGGIE, to be named as seller, NOT “Bonanza Seller.” Again, Ebay’s shipping software already states the seller’s actual name as the package’s sender.
(4) The items’ photos are already well printed in the Bonanza ads, and I am happy with those pictures. At Ebay, if I am late in shipping the box, then I append PHOTOS of the shipping box so the buyer will know what box will be left on their porch during a delivery. This is NOT yet an option with Bonanza, but EBAY allows, and even invites, sellers to attach photos to any Ebay message being sent to the buyer.

I have another question and it’s because I am trying hard to understand. I am confused on Worldwide.
I thought we were already worldwide since sellers can offer shipping to “all” countries? As far as I’ve known in the past we’ve been able to ship worldwide, isn’t this right?
Please help me to understand. What have we not been doing that has kept us from being worldwide and what will we do that will make us worldwide exactly?

Hi Sharon! Nothing has changed about selling internationally on Bonanza. We’ve always encouraged buyers and sellers from around the world. It is just a name change by the new owner.

Just learned about Bonanza tonight after selling on eBay for many years. The process of setting up my store and linking my eBay has been remarkably seamless. I’m excited to see if my products sell well here. The Bonanza webpage is highly user friendly, even on mobile. Please excuse me if you’ve heard this one before, but one suggestion is that eBay does a rather usable and aesthetic mobile app. Does Bonanza have plans to develop any mobile apps?

One good thing to get RID of is The leave Private Feed back box its Very unuseful all feed back should be Public and some times its hard for some buyers to under stand not to check that Little Box or to uncheck it

With change comes growth. With growth comes growing pains. I’ve been here a week and no sales yet. It’s still better than Ebay.Far more less complicated than Amazon and cheaper. I have faith in Bonanza. Love my shop being on Google already. Looking forward to a prosperous new year.

I joined in early 2009 when we were Bonanzle and have seen a lot of changes over the years. My sales have always been good even with the Bonanzle/Bonanza lack of name recognition. I’m excited to see what happens with more emphasis put on getting our name “out there”.
I welcome Quincy and look forward to seeing his ideas and the direction he will take Bonanza. I wish Bill the best with his now full time endeavors.
