In our effort to keep you informed of the on-goings on Bonanza, we wanted to write a special Friday edition of our blog to let you know about three items we have just made live on the site.
Google Checkout button removed from checkout. Google has retired Google Checkout and has no plans to offer an alternative checkout product. Because of this we have removed the Google Checkout button from our shopping cart effective today. We hope to work towards offering the ability for our sellers to accept credit cards and will be sure to update you when we have more news. In the meantime, if Google Checkout was your only payment option then we would suggest setting up PayPal and or Checkout by Amazon for your Bonanza buyers. We will also send an email out to all of our sellers about these important changes.
Google Shopping. Google Shopping is a great sales channel so constantly monitoring our feeds and looking for opportunities to enhance our shopping feeds is something that we work on often. We are looking at expanding our Google Shopping feed to include other countries that Google Shopping is adding. Stay tuned for updates on that great addition. We are spending quality time investigating reports of some sellers feeds showing abnormalities (names not updating, sold items showing, feeds not updating). Because Google Shopping includes another company besides Bonanza, sometimes we are not able to get you answers right away but do know that your concerns are our concerns and we will do everything we can to resolve your concerns in a timely manner. We sincerely appreciate your patience and trust on that.
Shopping Cart Improvement. Today we launched the first of a few updates to our shopping cart that will enable multi-seller checkout. Basically that means that shoppers will be able to add items to their cart from multiple sellers and when they are ready to checkout they can do so just one time versus having to checkout multiple times for each seller. The changes that we launched today will lay the foundation for that change. You should not notice anything different with what we launched today as all of the changes were behind the scenes. However if you do notice something amiss, please do let us know so we can get that corrected.
Lastly, have a super weekend and thank you for your continued support.
UPDATE 9/9/13, we have removed the PayPal warning at checkout. Even though the PayPal issue is not resolved, the PayPal issue is rarely happening.

Just had my google checkout question answered. Yay, it was a hassle anyway.
Why was the button removed before the 11-20 date stated by GCO?
No real reason other than we like to stay on top of things when we can
2.5 months early? Sure would have been nice to get a heads up of at least a week that you were going to do something that drastic.
Sorry if we have inconvenienced you or any other Bonanza sellers with this most recent change GrandmasPantry. We wanted to make sure that if there were any issues that we could address them in advance rather than have to do so during a high volume shopping season. Truth be told, the majority of transactions on Bonanza have always been via PayPal (by a large margin), followed by Checkout by Amazon. That does not lessen the inconvenience brought to you and for that we apologize. Hopefully we will have another viable option soon (Credit Cards).
I agree with GrandmasPantry – I am very disappointed that GC was removed ahead of the deadline of November 20th, with no advanced notice to sellers so they could make decisions on alternative online payment service.
I was well aware of GC’s November 20th date, and was still deciding what to do for online payments, but it is only September.
Does bonanza really have any plans to offer any other online payment alternatives besides CBA and Paypal?
Quote from above: “We hope to work towards offering the ability for our sellers to accept credit cards…”
That is very vague – hoping to work towards something is a far cry from something that you are actively working on, or close to implementing…
Sorry for that TimeSpanTreasures. We do have plans to offer another payment option (credit cards). From what I have learned, adding the ability for merchants to accept credit cards is quite daunting. There are many things to consider (rates, fraud, etc) before adding this option. Additionally we are sensitive to making such a change to our shopping cart this close to a high volume period (adding a payment option vs removing an expiring one is a much riskier change to our cart), hence why it is taking a bit longer to vet and possibly implement. You can be assured that any payment addition to our shopping cart will be thoroughly examined prior to being added.
I knew Google Checkout was no more, but it was changed to Google Wallet. Are you saying that Google Wallet has now been discontinued as well? I’ve not received any emails from Google Wallet, and I did receive emails from Google Checkout before telling me that I needed to change to Google Wallet.
I believe that Google Wallet will still be but Google will no longer process seller payments via Google Checkout. Per their announcement on this (linked in the blog):
“Merchants selling physical goods will need to switch to third-party alternatives”
I hope that you DO implement a direct payment system I think it would be very beneficial…and could draw more buyers and sellers to Bonanza! Just wish that since we have known about Google Wallet/checkout being no more come November for awhile now that the direct payment option would of been a top priority to everyone working behind the scenes.
Because of the high percentage of sales on Bonanza that take place via PayPal and Checkout by Amazon, that has afforded us a bit of time to research adding credit card payments on Bonanza. I agree with you, I hope we add them too
When trying to update my booth it takes me to
Set up your seller account
is there something I need to do on that page, this is where it shows my google wallet info
After you update your booth and when you are taken to the set up page, just uncheck the Google Checkout option and save that page. That should do it.
Ditto CritterCreek Ranch comment- something we need to do?
(repeating answer to above question) After you update your booth and when you are taken to the set up page, just uncheck the Google Checkout option and save that page. That should do it.
Since Bonanza has removed Google as a payment option, we have to delete it as well. When you click on update booth and are taken to Set Up Your Seller Account, just uncheck google as a payment option and it will work again.
Nice pic. Mark. The irony is not lost……
Very disappointed that Bonanza would do this so far in advance. I had already added CBA before this happened. But as a repeat BUYER on Bonanza, I would have liked to have continued using Google Checkout until the bitter end.
better uncheck that box that says “ships from a different location” if you aren’t a drop shipper
Some notice prior to this change would have been nice.
Thanks for letting us know Mark
… Google Checkout was a bit of a pain and I can’t figure Google Wallet out so maybe all is better without it.
I am too very sorry for this advancement in Google checkout button removed so early,
thanks for the update, need to go in and make changes. Please offer another form of checkout since now I only offer Amazon now, I prefer NOT to use Paypal……and so do alot of customers………..
With Google Checkout gone, and a banner warning buyers against using PayPal, that pretty much leaves CBA. Please, please take the PayPal warning down! There haven’t been any recent reports of problems with PayPal, so at this point, the warning is doing MUCH more harm than good.
Unfortunately the open issue with PayPal is not resolved. We will be sure to remove the banner just as soon as the issue is resolved. If it makes any difference, the cart abandonment % has remained unchanged (low) since we have added this precautionary banner.
On July 9th the PayPal error was reported and as of Sept 9th the banner warning buyers still appears! There is no way possible that PayPal would allow a problem to exist for 2 months. PLEASE remove the banner. You now have us limited to CBA only or is that that what you intended?
They also said it was not possible to land on the moon but we proved them wrong
Repeating what we mentioned above, the issue with PayPal is not yet resolved. We will be sure to remove the banner just as soon as the issue is resolved. If it makes any difference, the cart abandonment % has remained unchanged (low) since we have added this precautionary banner. Sellers currently have two viable choices to checkout, PayPal, and Checkout by Amazon. We hope to add another option soon.
I just bought something using Paypal and no warning screen or header came up. Went through just fine. Maybe it’s fixed.
@Carolyn, it may not have shown if your seller is only offering PayPal.
It is September 9th, and I just put something in the cart from a seller who offers Paypal and CBA, and I am seeing that Paypal warning:
“As of July 9th, PayPal is experiencing elevated error rates. If your seller offers checkout options other than PayPal, we recommend you use those.”
I planned on going into semi retirement on November 20, 2011 when Google Wallet ceased. Ay my age I don’t need the hassel of setting uo another Buying option.
I guess Bonanza has moved up the retirement date.
In that case then it is time for a cyber retirement party!!!
Best of luck to you karoden and thank you for making Bonanza a part of your routine. Best of luck to you in the future and don’t be a stranger
Good riddance and thank you! Was planning to ask you to do this now. Google Wallet was a pain in the neck. Read the lingering returns/refunds policy. Best to not have any sales via them from now on.
I didn’t know there was a cautionary banner when using PayPal. Amazon, to me, is as much a pain as Google. My only other form of payment offered is Money orders. In 11 years I have never had a single problem or issue with PayPal [over 1600 payment transactions to me, probably double the same by me] and have been greatly impressed with their lightning swift intervention when my debit card numbers were stolen and unbeknownst to me being used 800 miles away from me, actually aborting a transaction mid stream …and the speed with which the funds were restored.
Why not put the Credit/Debit Card logos up the way eBay does showing that CC’s are accepted through PayPal?
This action seems to have canceled out my payment from Google on my last sale, and I don’t know what to do. Google has always transerred my payments to my Checking accout within 48 to 72 hours. Transaction took place on Sept. 2nd and noting from Google. Any suggestions ??? ANYONE
If you can contact us at support we would be glad to assist.
I was wondering how to take care of the Google Checkout. Thanks for doing the hard work so I didn’t have to! Actually, I liked Google Checkout – I’m sorry they’re doing away with it.
And Mark, who is that woman at the top of the page? She looks rather…..sinister…..unhappy…..
Her name is Iris Apfel and she is adorable! Google her name and look at her pictures. When looking for a picture for this blog I Googled the term “Inform” and then browsed a sub category of image results and found it. Just lovely!
I had so many problems with Google Checkout so I cancelled this service about six months ago. So happy to hear this news. Never had any problems with PayPal.
When will an email be sent out? It has been 4 days and no email yet, what about the thousands of sellers who don’t read this blog?
Also, how long is is long enough to research a new payment method? Sellers have asked about it for a couple years because, let’s be honest, someone who is looking for an alternative to Amazon/eBay probably wants another option to keep that money out of their hands. In fact, I probably won’t make a purchase off Bonanza now that I have to use Amazon/Paypal.
I have also long been under the impression that Amazon payments did nothing but deflect future purchases to Amazon, because the last thing the customer sees is Amazon.
No monthly fee services with technicians to help integrate: Braintree, Stripe, Moneybookers, Paymate, and there are many more. This list is just a quick list from memory. If a few dozen paid memberships stay by doing this, it will pay for itself in months.
We have sent the email to all users who opt in for support updates. If you go to your My Bonanza > Account Settings > Notifications you can select to receive these emails (yours is currently set to not receive those).
unless its just my booth no email was received and I am opted in. No it is not in my spam folder
Hi Mary
It’s a good thing you checked your spam folder because that is a possibility. Bill let me know when the email was sent out yesterday so I am sure they were sent on our side. Maybe there is a drag in users receiving them. Once the emails are sent there is nothing we can do to make sure that you get them unless we hand deliver them (Spot me a dozen cookies and maybe we can work something out)
Mine is also marked to receive notifications, but nothing was sent. You said “Bill let me know when the email was sent out yesterday….”, if you mean the notification was sent yesterday, that’s still 4 days after you announced it in this blog.
You are right Kenoticket. We messed up. We should have notified our sellers of this prior to us removing Google Checkout so they could have time add another option if need be. We made a mistake and we sincerely apologize for that. Moving forward we will do our best to make sure to be more sensitive of such things. Thank you for your comment.
Have you considered resending the e-mail? I didn’t get it either. Perhaps you could tailor the recipients to everyone who accepted Google Checkout, regardless if they opted in to receive support notices. On the other hand, maybe you did limit the recipients, which would explain why I didn’t get an e-mail.
Will check on the delivery of that email to make sure and will also note your suggestions. Thank you for your comment.
As far as I’m concerned, good riddance! Never had anyone pay for anything with Google Checkout or Wallet. I also didn’t receive the bmail about Google Wallet being canceled.
I didn’t get any email, either, and I am also checked off to receive such emails, and I also checked my spam folder and nothing there.
I had hundreds of sales through GCO, and I was getting close to that 500 sales badge here. I used it on another selling site before bonanza, too, with no problems. I sure will miss it. Oh, well, c’est la vie.
List me as another person who has the settings checked and did not receive it in regular or spam. Seems this might be something to add to that to-do list that you talk about.
yes me too, I have not received any email
I won’t miss google checkout. In fact, if it were possible to toss google out the window I would do so as I am really tired of jumping through their hoops as I am sure most of us are!
Thank you Mark for introducing us to Iris Apfel, she isn’t just adorable, she is a gem! Beautiful, confident, brilliant woman.
Thanks for the Well Wishes Mark, and I still maintain the ability to " Read Between The Lines ". Your wishes are similar to the message I recieved from ebay, and the reason I came to Bonanzle.
GCO was my only form of electronic payment, by choice. I will not be using PP or CBA, a choice I made long ago. So I guess, my store is dead.
I had been hoping that Bonanza was going to produce another payment service before shutting down GCO.
@GrandmasPantry, Hopefully we will have a third option available soon and that option will be viable for you. Until then maybe you can accept checks and money orders. Sorry for the hassle.
Grandmas I understand your feelings, as my Booth/Store is now dead for all practial purposes. I cannot tell how much work, and hours I put in establishing a booth at Bonanza with over 4,000 listings, and doing everything possible to make Bonanza a success. I too refuse to use PayPal, and I will say I NEVER had a problem with GCO.
I also have the settings checked, and didn’t receive an email to either my Inbox or Spam.
Sorry, Mark, better tell Bill to hit Re-Send.
Google just sent out emails saying that they are limiting their service (calling it Google sunset) and this period is to be used to clear out payments and resolve any outstanding issues. The date google gave was for the closing, not the last day to accept payments. Thanks Bonanza for being on top of the situation.
From Google’s Sunset email, affirming their closing dates and information:
Sunset of Google Checkout. As announced on May 20, 2013, GPC is ceasing operation of Google Checkout on or about November 20, 2013 (“Sunset”).
Some features of Google Checkout may remain available for a limited time after Sunset.
If Seller allows refunds in connection with a Payment Transaction, Seller agrees to process such refunds using the Google Checkout refund function (“Refund Function”), which will be available to Seller until December 20, 2013 or thereabout.
-————-I made a purchase today on another site using GCO, with no problems.
Thanks for posting that TimeSpanTreasures.
The “sunset” is the 11-20 to 12-20 2013 time frame. Meaning that is the last seller’s can finish up handling returns and refunds. Not that seller’s couldn’t take payment up until 11-20, at least that is how I understood it.
