1934 Vintage Postcard FOURTH Coast Artillery
Amateur Radio Operator
Ferdinand Sergio
QSL Card K5AA Audacia

This very rare and historically significant card is tannish brown in color, measures aprox 3-1/4 x 5-1/2 inches, and features the amateur Radio Operator Call sign printed in Red, anchored at both ends a logo with the word "AUDACIA".

Across the top Edge is printed: " FOURTH COAST ARTILLERY, AAIS, FORT AMADOR, C.Z.

The QSO info headings are printed in Blue, and although the "pre-printed date appears to read 198_ with the number 4 handwritten in, it must have been a printers error, as the card is postmarked "1934".

The personal message was "typed" (on an old fashioned typewriter), reads:
"RAC BUR GLD TO QSO U OM HPE TO SEE U AGN SUN OTHER TIME SN WX  VRM HR"  and pre printed "Tnk fer Card" (and these kids today think "they" invented texting abbreviations!)

The bottom of the card is hand signed, (clearly in fountain pen ink) by (as best as we can read his handwriting...), "Ferdinand Sergio"

The back of the card (address side) is a pre-printed "US POSTAL CARD" featuring a one cent pre-printed Jefferson Postage.

The postmark over the postage is stamped "CANAL ZONE" and the dated postmark reads March 15, 1934, BALBOA, CANAL ZONE.

CONDITION: Although the card has sustained some damage by pin holes at the top center and top left corner, the corners only show minor wear, a slight crease in the upper right corner.  The "Typed message was either typed with a fading ribbon, or has faded over time, but is still readable and clear, with no smudges, staining or tears. Would make a nice framed wall decor decorative addition to any man cave or for any Military collector.

FYI Historical Trivia: Fort Amador
Fort Amador
(1911 - 1979/1996), Balboa
Originally considered the mainland portion of Fort Grant until 1917. Formerly Headquarters U.S. Army, Southern Command and U.S. Naval Forces, Southern Command. Most of the post was turned over to Panama in 1979 and became headquarters of the Panamanian Defense Force until 1989. Portions of the post remained under American control until 1996. Coastal defense batteries were Battery Birney (6-inch DC) and Battery Smith (6-inch DC) (both 1913 - 1943 and buried), and also AMTB Battery 7A (90mm) (1942 - 1948, buried). Most original military buildings were demolished by 2000 for new commercial development.
