1981 Vintage Photo Postcard USS SEMMES DDG.18, QSL Card WA1NHP H.B. Buzz SHAW
A wonderful piece of history here in this QSL Card sent from Herbert B. Shaw, III, CDR, USS Semmes Crew Member, 1979-1981
The front features a beautiful historic photo of the USS Semmes (DDG-18), ships motto was "Dare To Excel" and was the second Navy ship named for Commander (USN), Rear Admiral (CSN), Brigadier General (CSA) Raphael Semmes (1809–1877).
USS Semmes (DDG-18) was a Charles F. Adams-class guided missile destroyer of the United States Navy.
Semmes was laid down by Avondale Marine Ways, Inc. at Avondale, Louisiana on 15 August 1960, launched on 20 May 1961 by Mrs. Felix Edward Hébert and commissioned on 10 December 1962.
Semmes was decommissioned and stricken from the Naval Vessel Register on 14 April 1991, sold to Greece on 13 September 1991 and renamed Kimon. She was decommissioned on 17 June 2004, placed in reserve at Souda Bay, Crete until scrapped fall 2006.

There is no postage stamp or postmark, so the QSL card was probably sent in an envelope, perhaps with a personal letter or other photographs.
The personal message is dated May 2, 1981 which was the same year Buzz left the Navy, and the return address is South Carolina, so it must have been right after he returned home.
CONDITION: Fair condition, minimal wear along edges and corners, no pin holes. Glossy front grey scale picture is clear, no smudges, stains or tears.
The original address printed over the photograph was changed to Miami Fl, and the hand written message on the address side is clear and very readable.
