This is a vintage original 12 x 18 in. US 4-page pressbook from the 1920's silent film western drama, STRAIGHT SHOOTIN', released in 1927 by Universal Pictures and directed by William Wyler. Based upon a story by William Berke, Jack Roberts (Ted Wells) and his sidekick, Malpai Joe (Garry O'Dell), see John Hale (Buck Connors) and his nephew, Tom (Joseph Bennett), attempting to run a bandit blockade with supplies for their secret mine; John is wounded by the outlaws, and Tom makes his getaway. Jack rescues John, whom he carries to safety in the hills while "Black" Brody (Wilbur Mack) and his men, who are plotting to flush the miners from their claims, loot the wagon. Bess Hale, infuriated with her cousin's cowardice, begs Jack to stay and aid them. Tom angrily goes to join the gang in order to get his share of the mine and contacts Stephen Clemens, the gang leader. Jack and his friend are captured by the gang and locked in a room with Tom, while John is forced at gunpoint to sign over the claim. But the prisoners escape in time to overcome the bandits in a galloping battle.

 

Straight Shooting marked the film debut of western star Ted Wells. This pressbook, which consists of 4 pages (we believe it is complete, although the pages are not numbered), has one horizontal and one vertical fold. It is in fine+ condition with light signs of wear and random creases around the edges and beneath the top edge. As it is folded, it will be safely shipped in a USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope.

 

Variety reviewed the film twice, first as Ranch Riders when the picture had a one-day showing in New York City on November 30, 1927, then again on March 7, 1928 under the title Straight Shootin'. The second review noted that it was playing on a double bill but did not indicate play dates. The Union Democrat (Sonora, CA), The Reading Eagle (Reading, PA) and several other newspapers advertized the picture as Straight Shooting.
