Wonderful vintage Shenango China • Rimrol Welroc oval cup saucers (2) restaurant ware! Lovely ironstone saucers have a wonderful mid century flair with it's gray and white color. This beauty has stood the test of time and is ready to add glam to your retro kitchen! Mainly used for restaurant/diner ware or railroad ware due to their durability in the 40's and 50's. Will mix and match with so many vintage pattern china for a great tablescape! Nice piece of history!
The Shenango China Company underwent several transformations during the
early years of its operation. The company, based in New Castle,
Pennsylvania, continued operations until 1991 when it finally closed its
doors. From 1909 to 1936, the company focused on commercial china for
use in restaurants, hotels and large institutions. It wasn't until 1936,
when Theodore Haviland, of Haviland and Co., broke away from the family
company to begin producing his own china that he contacted Shenango
China to manufacture Haviland designed china and patterns for dishware,
now highly collectible.
There are 3 dings in the back of each plate. The thickness of the saucers should not affect the usage of them in the slightest. With the exception of these dings the plates are great condition. Considering the many years these dishes have been used the dings are at a minimum. The gray color is bright and vivid. Just think about the stories these dishes could tell...
Makers Mark: stamped Shenango China • USA • Rimrol Welroc B-21 and the numbers 8-3 on bottom of one … the other has an S-8
