Dorcas Whipple, Chicago heiress thought "Tomorrow is my wedding day and the man I'm marrying is not Ronald Drew." To please her mother and because, deep in her heart, Dorcas knew Ronald was weak, and profligate, she had become engaged to Jevan Locke, whom she had known all her life. When the telephone rang, she knew it was he. "Just one last look," Ronald pleaded. When Dorcas went, Ronald was wild and insanely jealous, and she had to struggle to leave the apartment. The next morning the headlines screamed the suicide of Ronald Drew. Dorcas would have postponed her wedding, but Jevan quietly but firmly made her go through with it. As they left the church, her husband of five minutes was whispering "I know you killed Ronald. I don't blame you." Jacob Wait, the detective on the case, cancelled the honeymoon trip and set about proving that either Dorcas or Jevan was guilty. (#00002335)
