All Saint's Church,Nunney. Somerset UK . Commanding a view over the medieval cottages of the historic village of Nunney, the church looks across the river towards the castle [ built 1373].
Nunney church predated the castle, it has a Saxon cross, and a Norman font [ which I was baptised in].
Records indicate that the current building was built on the site of an earlier Saxon place of worship, and that work commenced 1174. Step inside and you are in a building essentially over 800 years old.
My watercolour captures the peace and tranquility of this typical English country church, and should you visit Nunney Fayre [ 1st Saturday in August], you can go up the tower to view the village below, take cream teas in the church, as well as visting the [free to enter] castle opposite.
Stay at The George Inn just 50 yards away [ an old coaching inn ], and you are seriously settled into Old England, and a good base from which to visit nearby Bath, Stonehenge, and Longleat House and grounds .
