Gipsy SongsIn 1853 young Brahms (he was 20 years old) took his first concert tour in duet with Hungarian gipsy violin player E. Remegni. Since then and during all his life the composer kept some special addiction to the music of Hungarian gypsies. Gipsy songs is one of his latest opuses (op. 103, 1887) and it exists in two authors editions â?? for four vocals with piano (published in 1888) and for one vocal with piano (published in 1889). This is the opus where Brahms used folk texts in German translation so as character rhythms and intonations, and sometimes even true tunes of Hungarian gypsies.
