145 mm x 205 mm The Symphony No. 2 was composed by Sergei Rachmaninov in 1906?1907. The first performance took place on January 26, 1908, in the Mariinsky Theatre of Petersburg at the symphony concert of A. Ziloti. The Moscow Bolshoy Theatre got the evidence of the Second symphony?s premi`ere on February 2, 1908 at the fifth concert of the Philharmonic Society. The score and orchestra parts of the Symphony No. 2 were published by A. Gutheil. That edition has become the base of the present publication. All the apparent emendations are inserted, including the ones, having been made by the author himself on the separate sheets for proof-reading (preserved in the State M. I. Glinka Central Music Museum). If doubts were raised about some cases, they were checked according to the printed parts, having been also revised by the composer himself (see the letter to N. Morozov of June 21, 1908, Rachmaninov S. Letters. M.: Muzgiz, 1955. P. 346).
