Description

Offered here is this Antique Wooden Steamer Trunk.  The trunk is made of wood and is covered in a layer of thin paper sheeting that was once a dark olive green.  The tin corners and trim are painted black, and unfortunately has a lot of light surface rust coming through. The wooden core of the trunk is in good condition, but the inner tray is missing, and the lining of the trunk is faded, and is torn in many places, and is also beginning to bubble and loosen in some areas, but is intact, for the most part.  Both latches work perfectly and still latch firmly.  The center latch does not have a key present for it. There are quite a few old shipping label remnants on the trunk, some of them dating to the 1950s. There is a name remnant painted on the trunk as well, but it is quite worn and faded. The paper covering is mainly intact, but it is beginning to bubble and come loose in some areas. The top of the trunk in particular is quite scratched and the paper covering here is all but gone.  There seems to be a metal lining over at least the top lid of the trunk, which is showing through the paper over most of the top.  There are more label remnants on this area as well.  The leather handles on the trunk are still intact, although they are quite brittle with age, and may break very easily.    I am unsure of the age or origins of the trunk, but based on some of the shipping labels, it did spend some time in Indiana.  Most of the labels that are still readable are railway shipping labels.  The trunk is 11.5” tall, 30.5” long, 16.5” wide, 7” deep, with an inside measurement of 30” long, 15.5” wide, and the area where the tray would have fit being 15.25” wide and 29.5” long.  This is a nice antique steamer trunk that would be a genuinely nice restoration project.  It has a nice patina and would be a great storage trunk.  It could be fixed up to make a nice antique collectible piece as well.
