The purpose of this dissertation is to describe the means of indicating hesitation by participants in conversations on Russian television. Special attention is paid to the position of hesitation markers in different types of sequences and in different variants of discourse deployment. The study was carried out in the theoretical and methodological framework of conversion analysis and interactional linguistics. This material contains about a thousand real and potential hesitation markers.Slavica Helsingiensia, published by the Department of Languages at Helsinki University, was founded in 1983. The series includes monographs and collections of articles on linguistic and literary topics.The majority of the doctoral theses prepared in the Department in the field of Slavic languages and literatures have appeared in the series.
