Bought new and watched a couple of times, plays great of course. Letterboxed widescreen version is great for newer TV owners as you use one of your zoom modes to fill the frame. This is the original uncut version which restores 8 minutes of never-before-seen footage because of it's mature nature. Out Of Print in all formats and no longer being manufactured.
An old rusty tramp steamer ship is jeopordized by a cargo of illegal explosives and blunders off course into the uncharted Saragosso Sea. A swampy graveyard of floating ships, debris, seaweed, with serpents, giant crabs and plants. Ruled over by a Spaniards sea colony stuck in a pocket of time where the Inquisition is still in progress.
Some scenes are breathtaking, such as the inhabitants crossing the mushy sea with snow shoes and gas-filled balloons strapped on to lift your weight up (see cover photo) so you can walk on top of it. And the Spanish nuts worship a Lovecraftian wriggling octopus god. This ludicrous pulp adventure is given weight by it's outstanding cast, splendid art direction and some of the grottiest monsters ever caught on film.
Comes in it's original protective black, hard plastic clamshell keepcase. The ad-artwork can be pulled out of the sleeve for comprehensive liner notes on the reverse side.
