Comes in a unique brown colored case. Some light polish and scuff marks on the disc'. Pre-viewed for quality and plays fine. Case in good shape, including a tri-fold insert. This full screen 2-disc version is Out Of Print and no longer available and looks best on old school square televisions. Full screen versions on all movies are being phased out as new televisions are now widescreen.

Nominated for 6 Academy Awards including Best Picture. Unquestionably a major contribution to the fantastic cinema, both in it's ambitous scope as well as in it's use of superlative special effects.

Picking up shortly after the first installment left off, Frodo (Elijah Wood) and Samwise (Sean Astin) are still heading toward Mordor, with Gollum (Andy Serkis) following/abetting their progress. Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen), Legolas (Orlando Bloom), and Gimli (John Rhys-Davies) join together with the denizens of Rohan to fight Saruman's (Christopher Lee) army of Orcs.

Gandalf (Ian McKellan) is back to make with the white magic heroics as well. Plenty of action (the battle scenes are incredible) and plot twists (Frodo's battle of wills with himself and Gollum add yet more depth to both characters). The TWO TOWERS ends with the huge Battle of Helm's Deep. We note that Ralph Bakshi's animated 'Lord of the Rings' (1978) ended at this point, it's much-needed sequel filmed by Arthur Rankin, Jr. and Jules Bass.

We recommend comparing Jackson's version with Bakshi's to get a better sense of each director's vision; while not without it's flaws, in some ways Bakshi's version is arguably closer in spirit to Tolkein's underlying themes than Jackson's.
