Measures 4-3/8" X 6-3/8", 517+ pp, written by Robert Lewis Taylor, published by Pocket Books Inc, stated "1st Printing. . .July, 1960," Giant Cardinal Edition #GC-759.
Front cover shows rubbing; wear to all edges and corners; 1" vertical crease from top edge of front cover; 1" diagonal crease from lower left front cover corner edge; chipping along left front cover edge at spine; chipping to top and bottom left front cover corners. Spine shows wear to all corners and edges; top right spine shows 1/8" exposed wear; creasing and rolling along spine, but still tight. Back cover shows lesser wear at edges and corners; 1-1/4" diagonal crease from left back cover edge towards top edge; 3/4" diagonal crease from right back cover spine. Inside front cover has black felt tip markings over previous owner's address label; previous store owner penciled in price/publication data/"scarce" on inside facing front cover page.
A really nice, tight copy -- if not for the shyness of the previous owner (and his/her liberal use of a black magic marker), this would grade much higher. Still, a hard-to-find edition of a top-notch, Pulitzer Prize winning book, which definitely led the way for LONESOME DOVE and LITTLE BIG MAN.
In addition, this was the book upon which the short-lived 1963/1964 television show, featuring a very young KURT RUSSELL (in the title role of JAIMIE McPHEETERS), CHARLES BRONSON, and the OSMOND BROTHERS were all featured.
