Vintage original 11x14 in. US lobby card from the classic 1980's action/adventure fantasy, CLASH OF THE TITANS, released in 1981 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and directed by Desmond Davis. Perseus (Harry Hamlin) is the favored son of the god Zeus (Sir Laurence Olivier), but he has unwittingly ticked off the sea goddess Thetis (Dame Maggie Smith). Just to make things worse, Perseus falls in love with the lovely Princess Andromeda (Judi Bowker), who used to be engaged to Thetis' son, Calibos (Neil McCarthy). Soon Perseus is off on one quest after another, with Zeus helping, Thetis hindering, and lots of innocent bystanders getting stabbed, drowned, and squished.
As indicated in the left side of the bottom border, this is lobby card number 7 from the set of 8 cards. The images features an exterior close shot of Perseus (Harry Hamlin), his shield strapped over his shoulder, as he holds the hand of Princess Andromeda (Judi Bowker) as their horse rests behind them. The border artwork at the right features artwork by Hildebrandt from the film's one-sheet poster. It is unrestored in fine- condition with a 4.5 in. diagonal crease across the top right corner; a 2.25 in. horizontal crease above Hamlin's head in the background; and random signs of wear in the borders. There are no pinholes, tears, stains, or other flaws.
Bubo, the mechanical owl of Athena, was introduced to capitalize on the popularity of R2-D2 from Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope (1977). The name "Bubo" is a scientific term for the genus of eagle owls and horned owls, which is interesting, because the robot Bubo was modelled on a barn owl, which is the genus Tyto, and not a Bubo at all. Bubo made a cameo appearance in Clash of the Titans (2010).
