Brand new factory sealed region 1 dvd. All of the text on the cover and back is in Spanish. It appears the movie is subtitled in English and there is some special features, but those may not be subtitled.

I don't believe this movie was ever given an English dubbed soundtrack. I have the original domestic vhs release and it is also in Spanish with English subtitles. An early impressive effort from the director of 'Pacific Rim', 'Don't Be Afraid of the Dark', 'Cronos' and 'Pan's Labyrinth'.

In the final days of the Spanish Civil War, staff and children at a remote orphanage run by loyalists Casares (Luppi) and Carmen (Paredes) prepare for an uncertain fate. After his father has been killed in the Republican cause during the war, a boy, Carlos (Fernando Tielve), is sent to the isolated orphanage and quickly learns that there are many secrets, including the (possible) ghost of a murdered child, Santi.

Sinister janitor Jacinto (Eduardo Noriega) also thinks there's gold hidden somewhere and is determined to find it. Uneasy combination of history and the supernatural. Elegant, chilling tale of greed and repression that also serves as political allegory of the times much like 'Pan's Labyrinth' did.
