Near-documentary style, with Streep excellant as the religous, un-knowable mother. Based on the book 'Evil Angels' by John Bryson. This case was also detailed in the film 'Who Killed Baby Azaria?'
A sensational Australian murder case is recounted in vivid detail under Fred Schepisi's brilliant direction. Based on a true story, this searing drama emerges as a strong indictmnet of hysterical public perceptions, bloodthirsty media, and sloppy forensic investigation.
Streep, speaking with a convincing Aussie accent, is superb as the mother whose infant is found missing and presumed killed by a dingo (wild dog) while camping with her family. Her tragedy is compounded when she is charged with murder.
Streep was nominated for the Best Actress award by the Academy.
