Based on the 1870 novel by Jules Verne, it is most notable for replacing the character of Professor Aronnax's (Richard Crenna) manservant, Conseil, with the Professor's daughter, Sophie (Julie Cox), who disguises herself as a boy so she can accompany her father aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln; she becomes the apex of a love triangle involving Captain Nemo (Ben Cross) and Ned the harpooner (Paul Gross).
