Vintage Fisher Price Play Family #952 Yellow House Complete with ALL WOODEN LP+ Bonus Baby and #761 Nursery Set/EXC-EXC++ (R)

Just like Dorothy said in the "Wizard of Oz,"  "There's no place like home, there's no place like home...."

Revisit for yourself the CLASSIC Fisher Price Play Family #952 Yellow House play set. Produced from 1969-1979, this set originally consisted of 19 play pieces and the base. In 1980, Fisher Price re-configured this play set so that it resembled a brown, Tudor-style house. I have configured this #952 House according to the original 1973-75 Fisher Price specifications (see www.thisoldtoy.com).  In my opinion, this set warrants an EXC--EXC++ rating.

After closely examining and re-examining this base, I can discern the following "flaws" on the EXTERIOR lithos:

1.  One, large rub mingled with some soiling on the center of the driveway;  I may be able to remove the soiling during the cleaning process; however, I may have to leave it as shown so that I don't do any further damage to the driveway;

2.  Approximately eight small bubbles and one, intermittent, hair-line crease on the house front litho;  basically, you can only see these if you hold the base up with 3" of your eyes and rotate it in the light; otherwise, you wouldn't see them;

3.  One, 1/16" L x 1/32" W puncture and one, 1/4" L x 1/8 " W tear on the end litho with the chimney;

4.  Approximately 21 small- medium bubbles  and a couple of hair-line intermittent creases on the rear house litho; most of these are located around the second floor windows while others are adjacent to the first floor windows; I know this sounds horrendous, but most of these bubbles and hair-line creases are extremely hard to see; once again, you basically have to hold the base up to within 3" of your eyes and rotate it in the light to discern them;

5.  One, 1/4 " L x 1/4" W tear to the right of the lower, left-hand window on the back litho of the house; some of this tear has folded on itself; I may be able to straighten it out and make it less noticeable; as it is, it doesn't jump out at you since it's located on the top edge of the "shutter" and upper white trim;

6.  A couple of pencil tip rubs to the rear litho on the back of the house; these definitely do not detract from the overall function or appearance of the piece;

7.  Approximately one half dozen small bubbles and a few, intermittent creases on the exterior litho for the garage;

8.  Some soiling around the perimeter of the house where the "grass and flowers" abut the house; I believe this soiling will come off during the cleaning process; and

9.  A small rub (@1/2" L x 1/4" W) on the litho at the end of the house next to the garage (where the two halves of the house come together);

Other than the aforementioned "flaws," the EXTERIOR lithos are in wonderful condition.  They have retained their original bright hues---no fading here!

I can't emphasize enough I'm being super "nit-picky" here. Many of these "imperfections" are barely perceptible and I doubt if they even show in my photos. You have to be searching for them and hold the base up close to your eyes and rotate it in the light to perceive them. I don't want anyone to be disappointed by their purchase from me so I feel obligated to bring these "imperfections" to your attention. Remember, you're dealing with a toy that is over 47 years young! All in all, I would rate these EXTERIOR lithos as being in EXC condition.

The INTERIOR lithos are impressive (EXC--NEAR MINT). With the exception of two, minor rubs on the master bedroom floor, the floor lithos are virtually flawless (NEAR MINT).  After repeated examination, the only "imperfection I can spy are:

1.  Some isolated bubbles near the window and door openings; some of these bubbles are large; however, they do not detract from the overall appearance of the piece.  I hadn't even noticed them until I held the base up close to my eyes and rotated it in the light; and

2.  One, teensy tear (@ 1/16" L x 1/16" W) on the upper litho edge next to the far left- hand window; I should be able to straighten it out and reglue it in place.

PLEASE NOTE: All of the aforementioned lithos are the original lithos applied at the factory.

The plastic surfaces of this base are in incredible shape (EXC- EXC++ condition).  Other than some light soiling, a few stray marks, a small gouge on the far right edge of the roof at the front of the house, there are no other cracks, chips, breaks, repairs, or stains anywhere on this piece. I believe the marks will come off during the cleaning process.  I took a quick pass at similar marks on the roof and they came right off.  The only other possible flaw I can ascertain is some roughness in the plastic on the outer hinge of the house, which is located about 2" from the top of the white chimney.  There is no fraying or cracking of the plastic on the hinge, both inside and out.  I tried to photograph this but met with little success.

The interior, painted edges of the house are in NEAR MINT -MINT condition.

Noted strengths of this base include:

1.  The door bell still rings and the garage door smoothly opens and closes;

2.  The chimney is 100% intact and hasn't developed any cracks or yellowing around the edges etc.;

3.  All four corners of the Masonite base are intact and free of any layering, cracking, smushing, or repairs;

4.  Other than some light scratches and a couple of water stains on the edge of base, the underneath side of the masonite base is in great shape (e.g. free of any marks or water stains).

In addition to this base, this offering contains the following:

1 VHTF yellow staircase w/litho (VG-VG+--while the original litho is intact, it displays numerous creases and a large bubble in the center of the litho; thus, I will be offering the buyer a free, replacement litho;

1 RARE brown coffee table (EXC+++);

4 VHTF yellow captain's chairs,  all with a triangle on the back (EXC--NOTE: the original yellow chairs that came with this set had dots, not triangles, on the back of the chairs);

1 RARE white double bed w/out original foam (VG+---due to dry rot, I have removed the vestiges of the original foam and replaced it with a firm, tan foam mattress; I have not glued this foam in place in case the new owner wishes to remove it and exchange it for something else; there is some edge wear on the upper edge of the foot board and some minor discoloration on the front edge of the headboard; I will be bleaching all of these beds prior to sending them on to their new owner; this should help tremendously with their overall appearance);

2 RARE white single beds w/out any traces of the original foam (VG+--once again, I have inserted some firm, tan foam in lieu of this missing foam; there is some slight edge wear on the lower edges of one bed);

2 RARE brown stuffed chairs (EXC-EXC++--minor edge wear around perimeter of the underneath side of the chair skirt);

1 RARE yellow table (EXC+++);

1 VHTF white/red single seater car with Fisher Price written on the wheels and without a "C" hook on the rear (EXC-EXC++--some light scratches on the hood of the car; also the wheel caps are a little dull; I'll be applying some Naval Jelly to brighten these up; NOTE:  Fisher Price was notorious for using whatever parts they had on hand at the time they were manufacturing given sets; thus, instead of a red/white single seater car, I used a variation--the white/red single seater car; cars included during the 1973-75 manufacturing period came without a "C-hook" on the back of the car);

1 RARE, ALL WOOD, green bodied Dad with BROWN heat stamped hair, "belt," and metal rivet (EXC+++--NEAR MINT);

1 RARE, ALL WOOD, blue bodied Mom with blonde pony (EXC+--light paint wear around the middle of the piece; this is consistent with its age);

1 EXTREMELY RARE, ALL WOOD, blue bodied girl with blonde pigtails (EXC---pigtails firmly attached; some fading of facial features and some light paint wear around the middle and bottom of the figure);

1 RARE, ALL WOOD orange bodied boy with red heat stamped hair and metal rivet (NEAR MINT--MINT);

1 HTF Snoopy dog w/a regular body and yellow link collar(NEAR MINT--FYI, Fisher Price originally called this dog,"Snoopy."  You can see the garage door at the back of the house has a dog's dish with "Snoopy's" name on it; over time, Fisher Price changed the name to "Lucky").

To add to the number of open-ended play opportunities, I have added:

1 HTF baby with bib;

1 HTF aqua rocking horse;

1 HTF aqua stroller;

1 HTF yellow cradle;

1 HTF pink /aqua changing table;

1 HTF yellow high chair; and

1 VHTF pink play pen.

All of these add-on pieces are in EXC+++ condition.

There you have it! This would make a WONDERFUL set for a Fisher Price collector or some lucky child.

Remember, this toy is NOT part of the recent Fisher Price recall. This play set was manufactured in the good ole' United States approximately 47 years ago.

As this set contains small parts, it is NOT recommended that this set be given to children under 3 years of age or those who are still mouthing their toys unless adult supervision is provided.
