Garlic Chives are native to East Asia. This herb can be found all over the continent from Mongolia to the Philippines. Garlic chives have been cultivated in China for more than 3,000 years. Garlic chives are still widely used throughout Asia today, both for their medicinal benefits as well as their culinary ones. As the name suggests garlic chives have a garlic flavor, although lighter than normal garlic, garlic chives have a subtler taste and smell. Keep in mind that even though the garlic chive has a milder taste and smell, it is still very aromatic. However, this herb is full of Vitamins such as Vitamin A, Vitamin B2, and Vitamin C. The herb is relatively fast growing. Chives will mature about 30 days after you transplant them or about 60 days after starting from seeds. You can start harvesting chives as soon as the leaves are big enough to clip and use in recipes.
