Magnesium is a mineral that is very important for maintaining the good health of the human body - it is needed by the heart, nerves and muscles. Magnesium participates in the activation of over 300 enzymes, which enable the normal course of metabolic processes in the body. As our body is not able to produce magnesium on its own, it is necessary to take it regularly through food. Daily needs for magnesium intake in adults and children over 12 are from 300 to 400 mg (recommended by the German Nutrition Association). The use of magnesium-poor foods, a monotonous diet, stress, sports activities accompanied by increased sweating and great physical exertion, excessive alcohol consumption or chronic diseases in old age (eg diabetes) can lead to a lack of magnesium in the body.
