Woodlawn Mansion, East Facade. Vintage Postcard
|
You are bidding on this vintage postcard. It is in good condition, showing only slight wear at the corners. It is unused postally, and is a standard 3.5" by 5.5" postcard. This is a photo card. The caption on the back reads: Woodlawn Mansion (East Facade) crowns the hill selected by George Washington as "a most beautiful site for a Gentleman's Seat." The house site was included in the tract of approximately two thousand acres set off from Mount Vernon by General Washington as a gift to his adopted daughter, Eleanor (Nelly) Parke Custis when she married his nephew, Lawrence Lewis. The Lewis home was completed in 1805 from plans provided by Dr. William Thornton, architect of the National Capitol in Washington. Woodlawn Plantation is administered by the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
