Vintage Fisher Price My Friend #216 Mandy Doll New in Sealed Box!
 Here for your consideration, is a RARE, VINTAGE FISHER PRICE #216 My Friend Mandy New in Sealed Box! In the late 1970's to early 80's, Fisher Price introduced a series of soft bodied dolls with vinyl limbs, lush, brushable hair, vinyl faces, and easily removable clothes and accessories. The series, called My Friend dolls, featured 5 doll characters: Mandy, Jenny, Becky, Nicky, and Mikey. Manufactured for only one year (1984), this Mandy doll is highly coveted by collectors.
This Mandy has never been removed from her original box. The original tape sealing the box is intact and Mandy still exhibits the plastic wrapper around her head. I can't tell for sure because of the collar of her cheerleader outfit but it appears the plastic tie around her neck is still in place. Her platinum blonde hair is styled in a below shoulder length, full bodied cut. She sports a blue headband to keep her hair out of her eyes while cheering. Through clever engineering, Jenny can be posed either in a standing or sitting position. Her soft body invites plenty of cuddling and her facial features are entrancing. I tried my best to capture her coloration through the cellophane. Her blue eyes are "to die for" and over all coloration looks beautiful. I cannot tell by peering through the cellophane whether or not Mandy comes with her original care instruction booklet. It may be behind the cardboard partition on which she is attached. Just to make sure, I'm going to enclose a copy of the original booklet that describes the care and maintenance of these My Friend dolls. Mandy can be washed in the clothes washer and tumble dried on low in the dryer. Personally, I'd probably let her air dry just to make sure she isn't harmed by the heat of the dryer. I'd also recommend that you put one nylon knee high (e.g. hose) over her hair to keep it somewhat in place in the washer. I'd also wash her inside of a pillow case. Her hair can be shampooed and styled in a variety of ways. I'd recommend using baby shampoo with just a small amount of styling gel.
I've tried to include a variety of photos to illustrate how remarkable Mandy really is. I did not attempt to open the box because that would automatically change her classification of new in box to used. Mandy's outfit consists of a blue and white striped knit sweater with a monogrammed yellow "Mandy" megaphone on the front of her sweater, a blue and white pleated skirt, white socks trimmed in blue to match her outfit, and blue and white sneakers. She carries two fluffy blue and white pom-poms. Since I haven't removed her from her box, I'm not sure if her cloth body displays yellow or pink roses. From what I can see, her "underpants" are a peach color. Whether that same color extends up over her entire body, I have no idea. Similarly, I have no idea if her clothes are fastened with plastic snaps or velcro closures.
Since I haven't opened the box, I cannot be 100% sure whether or not the doll or box exhibits any musty smells. If there are any such smells, these can easily be rectified by one of several ways: a. Putting the doll and box out in the sunshine for several hours to air them out; b. Lightly spraying some Febreeze on Mandy's cloth body and clothes and on the interior of the box; or c. Inserting a laundry dryer sheet inside her box for a few days.
Mandy's box shows minimal wear. All flaps are intact as is the original cellophane cover. There is minimal shelf wear along with the original tape to seal the package. I would categorize this box as being an 9.5 on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being perfect.
Mandy weighs approximately 2 lbs. UNWRAPPED and my location is Lafayette, IN (47905). To protect Mandy en route, I will be swaddling her in bubble wrap and shipping her inside another protective box. She will be fully insured. To ensure her safety, I will either be sending her via Fed Ex Home Delivery or Priority Mail. Unfortunately, our sorting center for Parcel Post is notorious for "manhandling" packages. I've personally had this happen to some packages that have been mailed to me. I don't want to take any chances with this extraordinary doll.
For domestic (mainland deliveries), I'm finding that Fed Ex Home Delivery is running about 33% cheaper than the USPS (including Parcel Post) and UPS Ground. This is especially true for packages weighing in excess of 5 lbs., traveling longer distances, or being shipped in oversized boxes (for the USPS, any dimension over 12" is considered oversized). To ship Fed Ex Home Delivery, I MUST have a residential address, NOT a P.O. Box, and a home, work, or cell phone number. Besides offering free tracking assistance, the Fed Ex quote includes up to $100 worth of FREE insurance. Insurance amounts in excess of $100 may be secured at a nominal fee.
