Vintage original 8x10 in. US single-weight glossy on-set candid photograph taken during the production of the 1920's silent film French and Indian-themed historical war drama, WINNERS OF THE WEST, released in 1927 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and directed by W.S. "Woody" Van Dyke. Able wilderness fighter Colonel O'Hara (Col. Tim McCoy) loves Rene (Joan Crawford), daughter of the commander of the French forces during the French and Indian War. The Indians, under Chief Pontiac (Chief John Big Tree), kidnap Rene and O'Hara hopes to rescue and wed her. The cast includes Edward Connelley, Roy D'Arcy, Louise Lorraine, Edward Hearn, Tom O'Brien, Frank Currier, and Lionel Belmore.

The image features a terrific on-set candid exterior shot taken during the filming of this production and depicts director W.S. "Woody" Van Dyke in the center background (wearing a suit coat and cap) and he gives direction to who is most likely an assistant director to his right while two extras as French soldiers stand behind him. Another member of the crew is seen at the far right in a white shirt. Printed for the film's original 1927 US release, this vintage original candid on-set production photograph is in fine condition with light signs of wear on three of the four corners and in the top half of the right border. There are no pinholes, tears, or other flaws.

The film featured a 2-strip Technicolor sequence, running approximately 180 feet (about 2 minutes), which occurs in the last reel when Tim McCoy and Joan Crawford arrive in Alexandria, Virginia, and are surrounded by soldiers as they step out of their carriage.
