General James Wilkinson was a sometime Commander of the Army of the United States and first territorial governor of Mississippi and Louisiana. But history also brands him as a traitor, so he was buried in an unmarked grave in Mexico. This is "the story of an amazing career; [but also] of one of the most weird and impossible characters that ever strutted his little hour on the stage of a nation". 319 pages, with map endpapers. This copy was well-cared-for (a blank page has an interesting American History-based bookplate of a Dorothy Shaw); it may even be unread, as several pages are uncut along the bottom edge. The spine, however, is sun-faded. Otherwise, tightly bound with no writing; slightly bumped cover corners and a slight edge bump on the ffep, but not really any significant wear. No dust jacket. This title is out of print. A good addition to a collection of American history, particularly of the South/Southwest.
