ORTHODONTIA, or, Malposition of the Human Teeth; Its Prevention and Remedy by S.H. Guilford, AM, DDS, PhD 1893, 2nd Ed., Revised and Enlarged RARE FIND - Original Publication Second edition, published in 1893, of a "work written at the request of the National Association of Dental Faculties in furtherance of its plan to secure the preparation of a series of text-books for use in American Dental Colleges. After its completion and examination, it was accepted and endorsed by the Association at its meeting in Saratoga, August 1889." The author, S.H. Guilford (1841-1919) was an important figure in the development of the science of dentistry and remains very important in its history. He received an A.B degree from Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster,Pennsylvania, in 1861. He fought in the Civil War and then received a DDS degree in 1865 from the Pennsylvania College of Dental Surgery. He also received several honorary degrees. In 1881 he was elected Professor of Operative and Prosthetic Dentistry in the Philadelphia Dental College. In 1895 he became Dean of the Institution. He also served in executive positions in state and national dental and academic organizations. The first edition of this textbook was published in 1889. The volume offered is the second edition "revised and enlarged" published in 1893. The third edition was not published until the early years of the 21st century.
