Vintage 8x10 in. U.S. single-weight glossy restrike photograph (not a vintage original photograph printed at the time it was taken but which was printed from the original negative at a later time) from the
classic silent film horror drama/romance, THE
UNKNOWN, released in 1927 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and directed by Tod Browning. A criminal on the run (Lon
Chaney) hides in a circus and seeks to possess the beautiful daughter (Joan
Crawford) of the ringmaster at any cost.
The image features an exterior medium shot of fellow circus performers Alonzo (Lon Chaney), an armless man who is also a knife-thrower, as he holds a guitar with his legs while enjoying a moment with his beautiful "target," Nanon (Joan Crawford), as they sit on the outer steps of a circus wagon. Printed most likely in the 1950's or 1960's, this vintage restrike photograph was printed from the original negative, so it features extremely sharp detail and great contrast. It is in very fine+ condition without any pinholes, tears, stains, or other flaws.
