Large Antique 14 Karat Yellow Gold Carved and Pierced Untreated Green Jadeite Plaque Ring 1900 to 1920
This stunning custom ring setting supports a natural green carved jadeite plaque. The carving of the plaque dates it to around 1900 to 1920. The style of scroll work of the custom ring setting appears to be from the 1940s to the 1960s. One outstanding piece of art to wear!
When looking at the carving with the "straight" side on the right, it appears that on the top left sloping toward the edge where the "triangle" edges meet is a fishes mouth and on the bottom there is a gourd/pumpkin carving.
In Chinese mythology a gourd (pumpkin) is a symbol of protection against evil and the fish equates to "more". Thus a fish with a gourd would mean more or better protection for the wearer.
