Pretty porcelain dessert tray features the Spode "Christmas Tree" 1938 pattern

He was asked to design a Christmas pattern for the American Market

Holdway was faced with a dilemma...he had never seen a decorated Christmas tree

His first sketch showed the presents suspended from the branches

He amended his sketches when told the American tradition was to place gifts under the tree

Holdway used another Christmas icon by adorning the top of the tree with Jolly St. Nick

Tray has white background with the Spode Christmas tree design centered on tray

Holly leaves decorate each handle of tray

Tray outer edge is trimmed in a green Christmas color

Measures approximately 12" (L) x 7 1/4" (W)
