2.5 Sata Hard Drive 1000GB Pre Loaded
For Macbook & Macbook Pro
This listing is for an Apple El Capitan Operating System software (MAC OS X 10.11) Pre-loaded on a NEW 1TB (1000 GB) 2.5" drive. This will work only on NON RETINA display MacBooks and MacBook Pro computers. It can also be used on certain iMacs and ALL Mac Pros from 2008 to 2012/13 provided a 2.5" to 3.5" converting sled is used (a $12.50 cost).
The hard drive was made in 2017 and was initially formatted for a Windows laptop. However, the laptop was never booted so the drive has never been used. It is in excellent condition and is working perfectly; it has been formatted and tested using Drive Genius and TechTool Pro and it passes every test with flying colors.
I recommend using IFIXIT.COM for instructions on how to replace the drive. [Disclaimer: Please be aware that not every malfunction with a laptop can be remedied by replacing the hard drive. Sometimes, other parts of the laptop might be defective].
Warning: Other sellers might not tell you about one anomaly with replacement drives for iMacs. I am providing this information because I want you to be fully informed. OEM (original) iMacs had a heat monitoring function built into the drives to regulate fans. Some, but not all, replacement drives put into 2009/2010 iMacs may cause the heat fans to run continuously. There is a work around at OWC in the form of a thermal monitor that can be purchased here: https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/DIDIMACHDD09/. If you replace the hard drive and the heat fans run continuously, then you will need this upgrade kit. (added 9/2/18: IF you have a 2009/2010 iMac, DO NOT purchase this drive unless you are willing to also purchase a thermal upgrade sensor. I will not accept returns because of fan issues.
