This is a vintage 8x10 in. U.S. single-weight glossy copy photograph (not a vintage original photo printed at the time it was taken) from the lavishly-mounted silent film costume drama/romance, MONSIEUR BEAUCAIRE, released in 1924 by Paramount Pictures and directed by Sidney Olcott. The film stars Rudolph Valentino as the Duke de Chartres/ Monsieur Beaucaire.
The image features an interior medium shot of the handsome Duke de Chartres (Rudolph Valentino) taking a pinch of snuff from the elegant gold box he is holding while he taunts the Duke of Winterset (Ian Maclaren), much to his amusement. (The Duke has the exact same look on his face as my grandfather used to when he'd leave the room chuckling while looking over his shoulder...). The exquisite period French costumes that were created by Paramount's costume department are seen to full advantage in this shot. Printed on single-weight stock with a glossy finish, most likely in the 1950's, this vintage copy photograph is in very fine condition with light signs of wear on the bottom right corner. There are no pinholes, tears, stains, or other flaws and the image quality is sharp with good detail.
