WUTHERING HEIGHTS by Emily Bronte - 12th pr., 1940 - VG-  WAY OF ALL FLESH by Samuel Butler - 3rd pr., 1939 - Fair       THE GOOD EARTH by Pearl S. Buck - 3rd pr., 1939 - Fair         Published by Pocket Books                                                                                                                                                                 Three of the first 11 titles issued by Pocket Books.  The first printings (in 1938-39) are now among the most scarce U S. paperbacks.  HEIGHTS (#7) was a big seller, with 6 printings in each of 1939 & 1940.  It has spine edge wear and some lamination peeling, otherwise only modest exterior wear and a very nice interior (white pages).  FLESH has no printing information, but, with only 22 titles listed in the back, I deduced this was the 3rd printing.  Extensive spine slits and pieces of the spine missing (but these early Pockets were pretty tough, so the front cover is still somewhat attached); there's some other wear, but the lamination is mostly there (some peeling), and there's a light red 'x" on the back cover; other than creasing on the last text page, the interior looks okay.   The first printing of EARTH was an unnumbered, small distribution "test" book which many now consider the most collectible American paperback.  It was reprinted as Pocket 11, and this is the 2nd printing of that.  This copy has heavy cover creasing and, again, extensive spine tears and other spine/corner/edge wear.  The white pages have modest wear.
