A fine copy that I obtained about thirty years ago or more Danton Burroughs, grandson of Edgar Rice Burroughs.
This is an exceptional copy of a rare booklet that Burroughs sent out to young people in an attempt to start a sort of was Boy Scouts-like organization,
but never was realized due mainly to business matters. Most of these that were sent out were thrown out. Some were kept in reserve in the Burroughs warehouse
but later on a fire caused by spontaneous combustion of nitrate films destroyed most of the books and material stored there. Some of it survived but most of that
ended up smoke damaged and the company issued a little label to go inside the damaged books and explained why with the books sold from the warehouse were smoke damaged. The “Tarzan Clans” fell victim to that fire.
This is an unopened perfect copy but some minor smoke shades on the page edges which do not extend onto the pages. Corners are perfect and no rust on the staples.
This was kept for years under a Mylar acid-free backed sleeve. The paper used in manufacturing this envelope is a very light ight cream color.
The envelope is still unused with the original gum on it, and someone has cut off the back panel as shown. I could have restored it,
but it is best leave is this ways. See my photos. If you need more let me know and I will provide them.
Published in 1939, this is one of the very rare copies to be found in this kind of condition with an envelope as
well, quite uncommon. It would be difficult to come up with a better copy of this rare booklet.
