CAB Comment––This antique volume is not large in size, but is large in content.  It is the complete “Sketch-Book” by Washington Irving, containing all 34 original stories.  It also includes two of his most well-known and beloved tales, “The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow” and “Rip Van Winkle”, and his noted Xmas essays: “Christmas”, “Christmas Eve”, “Christmas Day”, and “The Christmas Dinner”.  This particular 1928 ‘The Academy Classics’ volume also offers an in depth appendix, notes, chronology, advertisement the first American and English editions, and more––including some excellent illustrations.  Over all, this is just a fantastic book full of old-world charm and…well, if nothing else, it’s a wonderful way to add spice to the decor of any room and is in excellent condition for many a late night reading of “The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow” and so many others.  Unleash the Headless Horseman!

“Washington Irving: The Sketch-Book”––Wikipedia:
“‘The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent.’, commonly referred to as The Sketch Book, is a collection of 34 essays and short stories written by the American author Washington Irving. It was published serially throughout 1819 and 1820. The collection includes two of Irving's best-known stories, attributed to the fictional Dutch historian Diedrich Knickerbocker: "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow" and "Rip Van Winkle". It also marks Irving's first use of the pseudonym Geoffrey Crayon, which he would continue to employ throughout his literary career.  The Sketch Book, along with James Fenimore Cooper's ‘Leatherstocking Tales’, was among first widely read works of American literature in Britain and Europe. It also helped advance the reputation of American writers with an international audience.”
