Robert McKimson's animation career began in 1928 at The Walt Disney Studios, which then employed only about 30 people. He found the legendary Mickey Mouse on the drawing board before him on his very first assignment as an assistant animator. In 1931, he left for Warner Bros. Studio, where he stayed on until 1963 as an animator and cartoon Director. Robert McKimson became a Director during the mid-40s with his first picture, “Daffy Doodles,” being released in 1946. In all, he animated and directed 175 cartoons for Warner Bros., while creating and introducing five major cartoon characters: Foghorn Leghorn, Hippety Hopper, Sylvester Jr, the original Speedy Gonzales, and, of course, the Tasmanian Devil.
