Description: A nice size redware egg made by Lester Breininger. The glazed egg is beautifully decorated with a sgraffito design showing what we believe is an open fan with a flower below it. The egg is yellow in color with the fan and the flower being outlined in brown and having green sponged highlights. The bottom of the egg has a flattened base and is brown in color. The egg is signed "B+LB 1993" for Barbara and Lester Breininger 1993 on the flat surface where it sits. This is a very nice redware egg with a beautiful design and colors made by the master himself with the help of his wife Barbara. The egg is entirely glazed and looks great. Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: This is a nice piece made by Lester Breininger, the master potter from Robesonia Pennsylvania, himself with the help of his wife Barbara. It represented a great example of the master potter's work and would make a great celebratory piece for Easter or Spring. It would make a great addition to any redware collection. Note that Mr. Breininger died in December 2011 and as such his pottery has become very desirable and sought-after. A nice and well made piece worthy of a spot in your collection of contemporary redware.

Condition: The egg is in very good condition. It has no cracks, no repairs, no chips, and no hairlines. Careful examination of the egg reveals that it does not have detectable crazing to the glaze but has a few surface scratches. However the egg has a few of the usual defects you would expect with all these primitive redware pieces such as pops, slubs, unglazed areas, areas where the coloring did not cover the surface, and uneven spots. However, these are original to the making and do not affect the beauty or quality of the piece. Regardless this is a beautiful piece in excellent condition. Please see photos to appreciate its beauty and for additional condition information.
