On DVD or VHS: Extremely RARE and VINTAGE 100+ year-old footage:

DAN PATCH was born in 1896 in Indiana. However, 1902 was the beginning of an era that caught the attention of the entire world. That was the year that Marion Willis Savage, Minneapolis stock feed manufacturer, bought DAN PATCH.

This feature is a rare collection of scenes highlighting the famous people and events of that time...leading to an incredible sequence showing the elaborate stables and surroundings on the International 1:55 Stock Farm in Savage, Minnesota - home of the Great DAN PATCH. An exterior view of the enclosed half-mile track is shown; M.W. Savage designed and built the palatial stable on the Minnesota River...the only stable of its kind ever built.

This largest and most modern of breeding farms was to become known to turf followers the world over. It had every known accessory and convenience for raising and training the light harness horse. The overall facility housed 300 horses...a magnificent setting for DAN PATCH and a dazzling collection of stable mates. Few people in modern times have been privileged to even have a glimpse of this equine architectural masterpiece.

At the beginning of this feature, you will see turn-of-the-century rare footage of many celebrities and highlights of that era: Coney Island; Buffalo Bill still going strong at 71-years-old; Will Rogers - America's favorite humorist; American mass-production...a car comes off the line every ten seconds at a Henry Ford Plant in Dearborn, Michigan; William Howard Taft; the first feature film, "The Great Train Robbery"; Lillian Russel, queen of comic opera and respectable burlesque; vaudeville; Mary Pickford - queen of the movies; Charlie Chaplin...high humor...low comedy; the Keystone cops to the rescue; Teddy Roosevelt in the national limelight and Eddie Rickenbakker - America's Flying Ace.

You will see a great moment where M.W. Savage is treating his fabulous stable of champions...one of the most cherished scenes of all is a remarkable close-up view of a great man, M.W. Savage, next to his beloved DAN PATCH (never seen in any other feature).

DAN PATCH had proven to be a great sire...at the same time he was continuing to break records, his progeny were also winning races all over the country...see an entertaining piece of film of many of DAN PATCH's offspring frolicking in the fields and bolting out of barns at the 1:55 Farm - priceless!

You will also see DAN PATCH pacing his world-famous mile in one minute and 55 seconds...a record set at the Minnesota State Fair on September 8, 1906, before a crowd of 93,000 people - this scene in itself is a history-making piece of work for the motion picture industry. After the race DAN PATCH is hailed the greatest of them all...a living legend in his own time.

Witness vintage post race film of DAN PATCH being paraded with his winning blanket and having a wreath of flowers placed over his head and around his neck - extremely rare archival footage!
