About the Artist: Barry Arthur spends most of his days in his studio/gallery doing what he likes best ~ painting western scenes, wildlife, and landscapes or sculpting. This life as an artist did not begin for Barry until the age of 36. He picked up the paint brush because he was laid off from his job. He soon realized that he wanted to paint for the rest of his life. However, with a family to support, extra money was not available to buy paints, brushes, canvas, and other needed supplies. At a surprise birthday party ~ friends and neighbors laden with all the necessary art supplies ~ encouraged Barry to pursue this new interest. Using his wife's piano as an easel ~ his new career was launched. Barry may spend several months researching an idea that he has for a painting. The ability to bring into focus not only the heart of the subject but the thought and emotions of the artist is a prevailing characteristic of Barry's work. A few years ago Barry desired to add a new medium to his art and began sculpting. Most of the sculpture pieces are polished pewter mounted on marble and wood bases. He does, however, have some sculpture in bronze. Barry's work has been exhibited in galleries throughout the Southwest. His paintings and sculptures have captured the hearts of many and are found in collections throughout the United States as well as in private collections in England, Italy, and France.
