The Dragon Fruit is a cactus with fleshy stems that grows somewhat like a vine. The flowers which grow very large, (up to 12 inches across) and are quite fragrant, grace the plant in late spring to early fall. Flowers are elaborate and bloom only at night. After pollination occurs, red colored, edible fruits appear. TheĀ  spectacular round fruit is covered with attractive green scales. Encased in the thin rind is a large mass of delicious sweet pulp and numerous small black seeds. The Dragon Fruit can be eaten out-of-hand, and is also used as a flavoring in pastries and drinks.

Grow Dragon Fruit in well-drained soils, in full sun to partial shade. Water this cactus regularly and do not allow the soil to dry out between waterings.
