This is a stunning enameled round copper color brooch and pendant. It has inset clear rhinestones and a green rhinestone eye. All the stones have a lovely sparkle to them. The Unicorn has a long spiraled horn at the top of it's head. The brooch is made from a gold tone metal and the animal's gold head is finely detailed. It measures approximately 2 ¾ inches tall and 1 ¾ inches wide.  It is signed on the back Alexis Kirk. According to Wikipedia, he was a well-known contemporary costume jewelry designer who also designed clothing and fashion accessories. He began designing jewelry in the late 1960s to early 1970s. He was fascinated with the occult, spirituality and ethnic influences, which could often be seen in his designs. He had a number of well-known clients such as, the Duchess of Windsor, Cher, Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush and Jacqueline Kennedy.

I have seen an identically designed brooch to this one, that is signed by Kenneth Jay Lane KJL (can be viewed on Worthpoint). I don’t know for sure if they collaborated on this design, but it appears to be so. Before Alexis Kirk became famous on his own, he was employed as a designer for Hattie Carnegie as was Kenneth Jay Lane.

This brooch/pendant is in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. It has a pin catch that works well and it is also a pendant (although I’m not sure how you would use it as a pendant because the pin back would show). Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

This would be perfect for any collection of vintage figural jewelry. Alexis Kirk passed away in 2010 and his designs are highly collectable and hard to find.
