Isadore “Friz” Freleng Producer, director, writer and animator, Friz Freleng was the creator of numerous popular cartoon characters, including Yosemite Sam. He directed over 300 cartoons, featuring such favorites as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Tweety Bird, Sylvester, and Speedy Gonzalez. Beginning as an animator in 1924, he moved to Walt Disney Studios in 1927 and then onto Warner Bros. in 1930, where he became head animator and producer until 1962. Nominated for numerous Academy Awards, Freleng was awarded Oscars for Tweety Pie in 1947, Speedy Gonzalez in 1955, Birds Anonymous in 1957, and Knighty Knight Bugs in 1958. In 1963, Freleng and David DePatie created the DePatie-Freleng Studio, specializing in films and commercials featuring The Pink Panther. Among the three main WB Directors, Freleng had an extraordinary and genius sense of timing to juxtapose sequences of fast, often frantic action with moments of calm.
