Historical background and practical applications have been given a place of secondary importance. This was originally part of a two year course in Physics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology that extended through the first and second years. The subject matter covered in the first year consists of Mechanics, Heat and Sound; in the second year Electricity, Magnetism and Optics are included. This is the third book from the second year.
