No rips or tears.  Cover intact with all pages.  The binding is slightly loose but intact.  Surface wear to the outer hardcover.  Inside blank cover pages have staining.  No staining on the pages that I could see.  Complete with 188 illustrations.  One full page color illustration of flamingos and color title page.
